Hotspur - Portico Arts - Art Print by Elizabeth Legget

The Bard took so many liberties in the history plays in the name of better theater that I thought he would not mind if I did so as well.  Hotspur was the rival of Prince Harry (later Henry V) for the throne.  In history, he was a much older man than Harry, but Shakespeare made them generational equals.  I love the idea of Hotspur as a strong woman.

"By heaven, methinks it were an easy leap
To pluck bright honor from the pale-faced moon,
Or dive into the bottom of the deep,
Where fathom line could never touch the ground,
And pluck up drowned honor by the locks,
So he that doth redeem her thence might wear
Without corrival, all her dignities."
- (Henry IV Part I. Act 1.Scene 3.Line206-212)
