Scheherazade - Portico Arts - Art Print by Elizabeth Legget

Originally, the working title for this piece was "The Lure." I was playing around with the idea of a belly dancing android that flummoxed and bewitched with her unearthly charms. Partly, that was inspired after reading "The Windup Girl" by Paolo Bacigalupi.

As the heroine of  "One Thousand and One Nights" , Scheherazade represented a character of intelligence, talent and perseverance.  Her untenable situation gave rise artistry in storytelling. Draped in beauty, humor, sorrow, fear, each glimpsing into another world, another veil to remove.

My interpretation adds the element of timelessness.  Who is to say what stories she would tell in the future?

“She would take him to faraway lands to observe foreign ways, so he could get closer to the strangeness within himself.”
