Migration

Elizabeth Leggett | Portico Arts image of a fallen angel, now with one wing made of owl feathers, waiting for the train.
This piece is the sequel to "Homestead".  An angel has fallen from heaven and lost one wing. Losing one's naivete, one's childlike illusions, can be brutally painful. the soul looks around and sees only desolation.
"Migration" is the living afterward. Her remaining heavenly wing is falling away. Innocence is still beautiful, but no longer useful. Where her plucked wing was,now an owl's wing grows.  Wisdom has grown where ignorance has been removed. The bare tree on the far side of the tracks represents giving up...suicide. Some legends believe that those that kill themselves are warped into trees.
The angel is walking away "from the end of the line."  She has cut her hair and is dressed for travel. She will make her own destiny.
